rurl creates landscapes where life unfolds.
rurl (resilient urban + rural landscapes) is a small, New England based design studio focused on the realization of meaningful, personalized landscapes. rurl is committed to our shared responsibility as stewards of the planet, and strives to design landscapes that function in harmony with local ecological systems. We recognize that creating a more sustainable approach to built landscapes requires a nuanced understanding of a place. As such, we not only place emphasis on selecting materials and species that foster a sense of place materially and ecologically, we also commit to installing landscapes with the lowest possible embodied carbon. This means locally sourced and reclaimed materials, as much as possible, and ensuring that rurl landscapes are not only beautiful, but are also functional.
Aubrey Tyler, PLA
Landscape Architect
Aubrey grew up in the woods of New England. When not her mother’s gardens, she was exploring and making in the forest by her house, hiking the nearby mountains, or traversing the coastline. The landscapes of her lifetime have deeply inspired Aubrey, and influence her work every day. She is passionate about creating spaces that are both beautiful and functional.
Aubrey is a registered landscape architect in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Services
Phase 1. Site Visioning + Programming
Working together with the client, rurl will outline the desired outcome of the site, including programs, aesthetic preferences, and intensity of intervention. rurl will develop a schematic site plan with supporting documents to ensure the design suits the needs and desires of the client.
Phase 2. Design Development
After the approval of the schematic plan, rurl will refine the design plan with the intention of construction and work with local contractors to generate a rough cost estimate.
Construction Phase
During the construction phase, rurl is available to support the contractor on an as needed basis.

Management Plan: for homeowners planning to manage their own landscape after installation. rurl will create a high level guide for homeowners to manage their gardens and landscape.
